A barge is not a powered vessel. At least in American industry terminology.True, but they often have auxiliary diesel power, sometimes several hundred HP

Both statements hold truth but the truth is there are many self propelled types of barges. The question comes in "when is a boat a barge and when is a barge a boat?" Like the difference between a boat and a ship, which is almost impossible to discern in todays market.

Like asking diff between ocean/sea or which direction is up....those Qs are worth dwelling on but the world is changing and soon we may not be able to distinguish between a man or woman!!!!! Bob
