Russ,

Glad to have you join the party. I believe that a Gap Open is a gap up at the opening bell, i.e., the open price was above the previous close with no trades in between (my intraday chart does not show this for ABTX today, however, so maybe Anette meant something else).

Regarding a lower price at year end (or soon), it is always possible but I think that the odds are stacked against it right now. Year end selling has kicked in, so people are dumping their losers for tax writeoffs. The freed up money is now being redirected into new growth stories for the coming year (this is one factor which contributes to the so called January effect in small caps). ABTX is such a hot growth story with visibility increasing almost daily, that IMHO it is more likely that we will go on a quick runup, possibly to mid-teens IMHO. The recent increase is on great volume, so many want to buy now. We may settle back a bit if the runup gets ahead of itself. There will certainly be no tax selling for this stock. In the past there was a winter decline in price, but for the reasons which you will find detailed in previous posts on this thread, it is not occurring this year. The potential for ABTX is so great in the coming 1-3 years that, unless you are thinking of trading this company short term (inadvisable), you may not see much below 11-12. If your time frame is longer, then it will not matter much if you bought at 12, 13 or 15.

FWIW,
Jim L.

Russ,

A gap up is created when the low price of the day is higher than the high of the previous day, (and the reverse for a gap down). A technical analyst believes that when a stock gaps open from a bottom, (breakaway gap) it is a very strong indicator that an uptrend has begun. When up gaps occur in the midst of an uptrend (continuation gap),it usually means that the uptrend is alive and well, and that the price is going to move higher.(The reverse holds true for down gaps.)

A gap is a gap and the size is of less importance than the gap itself. Last week I pointed out in an earlier reply that ABTX had a high of 10 11/16 on Dec. 3, and a low of 10 3/4 on Dec. 4, thus a 1/16 gap. That was the early indicator of what was coming, and how a little knowledge of TA can sometimes provide an edge. So, go re-read reply #1057 and you'll see this weeks move was being foretold by the chart action of a week ago.

regards,
glen
