Michael,

There's good news for Intel even though:

Japan PC shipments lackluster

news.com

Because:

-Shipments of personal computers in Japan are expected to total 8.1 million units this year, up just 0.1 percent from 1996

but,

-the share of the PC market held by portable computers is expected to grow to about 40 percent this year from about 30 percent in 1996, according to IDC. The use of Intel's Pentium II microprocessor will expand rapidly in the second half of next year,

Sometimes there's a silver lining in the news.

Barry
