As near as I can tell, Hispanics have discovered credit, and the auto companies are happy to oblige. Here as some actual details of one example:

My wife has known this Hispanic young women since she was in high school, where she was in "special ed". Now oddly this girl thought she was "special" because she was in "special ed". She wasn't stupid, just didn't feel any need to study or do homework, and boys are far more interesting. Eventually the school system "promoted" her out into the world, but sans HS diploma. Her parents are 1'st generation immigrants, dad is a farm laborer, mother works mostly in food processing, so also Ag related. Both are hard workers. Dad drives a beat up old pickup.

The girl enters the workforce via McDonalds as many of them do, where she is generally kept to part time hours (seems to be a corporate strategy). On and off boyfriend is gang related, but "hot". Buys a nearly new car, on credit, and has no idea what she is paying for it, just knows what the monthly bill is. Can't balance a checkbook and doesn't understand that if she has checks outstanding, the current balance when she visits the bank is not the actual money yet available, because the outstanding checks exceeds the current total. Girl gets knocked up by gangster and she kicks him out, but is delighted to be pregnant. She hops jobs between McD's, Rite Aid, Taco Bell, etc. Has baby and gets on food stamps. Pays $100's in fees to the bank periodically for bouncing checks due to the inability to actually keep track of her finances. But the car is nice, much nicer than what I drive, but then I have always driven older vehicles and don't feel any need to project some imagined image of myself via what I drive. The girl feels good about herself when she drives around in her nice car. Doesn't seem to bother her when she's at Safeway paying with food stamps though.

This has gone on for a few years. This month I lent here $275 to stave off the car being repossessed, due to my wife's compassion for her. I'm supposed to get paid back, but ain't holding my breath.

There are lots of individuals like this girl out there. She is far from unique.
