The biotech revolution that is upon us is about to obliterate the 17% of the US economy that is health care. Cancer will be cured like a common cold. Most viruses will be treated and cured like the common cold. AIDS will practically disappear like Polio did. Heart disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes? All will be easily treatable and go away. Need a new organ? No problem. We'll grow one for you. 20-years from now, if you want to die, you're going to have to really work at it, most likely by accident or suicide.

I would love it if some of your above predictions were to come true. Unfortunately, I'm not as optimistic as you are about "cancer being cured like a common cold", viruses being treated easily, and AIDS disappearing like Polio "did".

Actually polio should have disappeared, but due to some who are against the vaccine, polio is starting to once reappear in some countries. From wikipedia:

"In Northern Nigeria—a country which at that time was considered provisionally polio free—an Islamic Fatwah was issued declaring that the polio vaccine was a conspiracy by the United States and the United Nations against the Muslim faith, saying that the drops were designed to sterilize the true believers. Subsequently, polio reappeared in Nigeria and spread from there to several other countries. [90] Health workers administering polio vaccine have been targeted and killed by gunmen on motorcycles in Kano . [91]

Ten cases of disease among 22 suspected cases were confirmed among children in Syria. They were identified on October 17, 2013 in Deir Ezzor. It was the first outbreak since 1999 in Syria. They were result of difficulties in execution of immunization programs due to ongoing civil war. [92]"

In the U.S. we're seeing outbreaks of Petusis. This article is again from wilipedia, and I don't feel that is is up to date on the numerous cases of whooping cough being seen in states such as California.

Pertussis
— commonly called whooping cough ( / ' h u? p ? ? k ? f / or / ' hw u? p ? ? k ? f /) — is a highly contagious bacterial disease caused by Bordetella pertussis. In some countries, this disease is called the 100 days' cough or cough of 100 days. [1]

Prevention by vaccination is of primary importance given the seriousness of the disease in children. [3] Although treatment is of little direct benefit to the person infected, antibiotics are recommended because they shorten the duration of infectiousness. [3] It is currently estimated that the disease annually affects 48.5 million people worldwide, resulting in nearly 295,000 deaths. [4]
..

Infection in newborns is particularly severe. Pertussis is fatal in an estimated 1.6% of hospitalized infants who are under one year of age. [22] Infants under one are also more likely to develop complications e.g., pneumonia (20%), encephalopathy(0.3%), seizures (1%), failure to thrive, and death (1%) [23] -perhaps due to the ability of the bacterium to suppress immune response against it. [24] Pertussis can cause severe paroxysm-induced cerebral hypoxia and 50% of infants admitted to hospital will suffer apneas. [25] Reported fatalities from pertussis in infants have increased substantially over the past 20 years. [26]

Pertussis is the only vaccine-preventable disease that is associated with increasing deaths in the U.S. The number of deaths increased from four in 1996 to 17 in 2001, almost all of which were infants under one year. [

My prediction with medical care is that Primary Care physicians are currently in scare supply, and their numbers will be more scare in the future. They are not willing to work with the ACA, the paperwork required, and the low payment received for taking patients on these plans. More and more Primary Care physicians are making the choice to retire early rather than to work with our current health care system. I personally know 3 Primary Care Physicians who are retiring in the next 6 months, rather than to choose to continue to practice in our over regulated health care system.
