No I did not blame the garbage on conservatives. The garbage comes form everywhere around the pacific rim. Look at the map below. I was chiding the Republicans because they want to get rid of the one agency that can do the most about cleaning it up, or helping to. And it is in our interest to do so. We have a huge 200 mile fishing exclusion in some of the best fisheries in the world. Fishing brings us in billions each year and creates millions of jobs. The garbage patch threatens that fishery big time, and our existence from worldwide pollution. We need to work with other countries around the Pacific rim to clean it up. That is in their best interest too and will contribute. To imply we need to do nothing is barely short of insane. google.com
