According to Scientific American as the species amalgamated say from 80,000 years ago until today the new genes and living habits caused rapid evolution e.g. they think a tolerance for milk and grains I think is only about 10,000 years. Since we settled down. It takes 20,000 years for people to evolve from having dark skin to light skin to let vitamin D in. And blue eyes are new.

In the cave days it was mostly spirits I think. I just read Infidel about life in Somalia. The grandmother was illiterate and her entire reality was manufactured myth. That is how we lived until just recently, IMO. I am familiar with some of the isolated tribes belief systems in New guinea and they are pretty wild. Lots of people on earth still cannot even count and are illiterate.

Hard to form a reality without those skills.

Even today half the country believes in things like ghosts. Even with science staring people right in the face people have no difficulty suspending belief; and once contaminated with myth, especially at a young age, myth is like a virus and hard to eradicate, IMO.

Not only was it not complete, evolution is going faster now than ever, with more people being born per year, and dying, than at any other time. There are more young women conducting eugenics than ever, removing undesirable males from the gene pool. Women do not choose the bottom of the barrel for reproductive purposes, contrary to the popular myth. They are merciless. <By the time civilization as we know it was born, our evolution was mostly complete>

See the Flynn Effect en.wikipedia.org for the modern output of that evolutionary process as women selected for intelligence. See the Darwin Awards for another pressure point on the less bright breeding stock of males who self-select out of the gene pool. You will see that women feature less in the Darwin Awards [Note1].

There are now 7 billion of us working flat out on evolutionary mutation, comingling of our genes, and selection from the resulting brew. In the 19th century there were only about a billion. When the Romans were building aqueducts, there were just a few hundred million.

More people have lived since the industrial revolution began than in all the time before that.

Now, women are about to get, and some have already got, an actual scientific process for selecting DNA. Some of them are doing it, choosing fertilized eggs that fit their desired genetic profile rather than randomly allowing the eggs with problem genes. Their advisors check the blastocysts to see which ones are good. Their fertility consultants can even do a spot of cutting and pasting of genes. 23andme can, for a very low price, give them a heads-up on genetic probabilities. Women have got a lot better methods than simply looking at a bloke to see whether he has the right stuff. They can look deep inside, for details like haemochromatosis or sickle cells or lots of other things.

Zygote to zeitgeist, with Cyberspace roaring ahead too to It's own cognitive realm. We don't know where we're going but we're on our way.

Note 1. That's why the father of all non-African males left Africa only about 25,000 years ago while the mother of all non-Africans left Africa about 90,000 years ago. The males killed each other off in droves or died in other misadventures such as being gored and trampled by mastadons. Women stayed peaceably back at the campfire waiting to see which males came back to base for reproductive rites and rights. Sometimes it was the victorious males from neighbouring tribes who arrived. Chimp males do the same sort of thing - going on patrol and murdering opposing tribal members who they come across.

Evolution is a very recent thing and it's going really really fast now.
