I suspect isolation of the people, various forms of bondage, and defeatist narratives have more to do with it. You don't have much chance of working on social change if you hardly have enough time to spend with your kids or provide for your family. You will neither be able to bring about any change if you are lonely and isolated (better to watch tv). And you have no motivation to work towards change if you believe in defeatist narratives or are overwhelmed by apathy. The few who overcome these are dealt with differently. ST
