So yesterday I put in for it and after answering all the questions I get a denial. Second time I have received this. So I called up Etrade and ask why I got two refusals in a row - what question am I answering wrong that is not allowing me to be accepted? I happen to have a decent amount of money in my account (I have three other accounts with them) and have been using them since 1996 - Platinum Etrade user too. The guy puts me on hold and comes back and says "we don't give that information out on why you were rejected." I explained to him that it made no sense and if they were to keep denying me I should have the right to know why. Back in the late 90's and early 2000's I participated in loads of ipos - never had a problem. So he says to me "by any chance, did you recently have an ipo where you didn't hold it for 30 days?" I told him that the last ipo I got was FB and I sold it the first day luckily - that was 1.5 years ago. He told me that he heard that if you sell within the 30 days, they restrict you for three years! Years ago there was always the threat of the "ipo jail" but they never enforced it. Whether this guys knows what he is talking about or not is debatable. I told him that it should say on my account that I am not eligible to participate in any ipos until a certain date instead of allowing me to take the time and fill out the stupid questionnaire each time only to get rejected.
