We've just had science for a brief time in the history of humanity. Whether it saves us or dooms us is yet to be determined. Can science save us from what science is allowing us to do to this planet? The jury is OUT.

And how does that relate to the role of religious beliefs in human evolution during our prehistoric times? Are you saying that a 100000 years ago our ancestors should have done science instead? Well they couldn't and didn't.
