China: Stiff penalties for VCDs smugglers... Guangzhou Court Sentences Three VCD Smugglers 12/09/97 Xinhua English Newswire (Copyright 1997) A judicial department in south China's Guangdong Province over the weekend sentenced three smugglers of video compact discs ( VCD ). Wang Guowei, Chen Daiming and Ye Wenlue were sentenced to 12 years-to-life in prison by the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court. They were arrested in early August when customs officers found 340,000 pornographic VCDs and 383,000 pirate VCDs in their boat.
