Johnson was in Washington a long time before he became president. Time to learn where the levers of power were, where the bodies were buried, who could be bought or blackmailed and for how much.

Christie may be a Johnson-like force in NJ politics, but that power would vanish on ascending to the presidency. He just hasn't been there to get the knowledge. He might find it a frustrating experience.

And I think a big part of the NJ story is that blue collar Democrats there see Christie as a "Joisey" guy first and a Republican second. If I'm right about that, then the Gov may not be able to translate/transfer his political power to the national stage. .
