Patrick - RE: DVD's - I'll take a stab also. The drives now being installed are read only. From what I read in the trade press, the read only drives out now will not be upgradeable to read/write. There is also some confusion on standards, have you read about the DIVx stuff being pushed these days??

PS - There are also different DVD implementations. I believe the Dell implementation uses hardware acceleration via a card. Compaq's 4850 model uses software acceleration. If I were buying I would go with the hardware implementation - better performance.
