You were right Mq. The typhoon was a bit of a fizzer at Boracay and elsewhere. Elroy should be just fine, albeit with hair ruffled. <Weather officials said Haiyan had sustained winds of 235 kph (147 mph) with gusts of 275 kph (170 mph) when it made landfall. That's still quite windy though. Imagine a full A380 taking off into such a head-wind. No need for a runway. Just point into the wind, fire up the engines to take-off speed, release the brakes and up you go, vertical take-off and landing. Care required when turning to go downwind once airborne though and lots of altitude recommended.
