Or as that one commercial used to have the CEO of another company say...."It's not that I don't care, i just don't care, care"

i believe Craig has the intention of making this a social media site, I'm just not sure he knows how to go about it which means he either has more money than brains, or got a screaming deal when purchasing it and has a limited budget to improve it so it could take longer than he originally thought. I'd like to think it is the latter and perhaps he could look for a PE investor to juice the budget and hire some people with real social media experience. Look what hiring marissa did for yahoo? if your business is search, stealing someone from Google is brilliant. IF SI wants to really play in the big boy social space, they should be looking for someone with big time social experience.

But Dale, to refer to yourself as a peasant after retiring with a nice pension from the US government and doing 50% plus investments for years, I hardly think you would qualify as a peasant ;-) had to get that gov dig in before you think I'm getting soft and turning Nascar..... (going only left for those that need my jokes explained)

As I recall, Brad bought SI from Bob, then sold it to Craig. Your earlier owners may be correct.

Brad and Jeff Dryer built SI from scratch, went online 01aug95, at least that's when their bios are dated, or possibly re-dated [notice wide difference in number] -

Brad - Member 35191

Jeff - Member 120356

Their father [i believe] Barry has bio of same date, don't recall he ever had any equity position - Member 28203

Jill [née McKinney] was admin from some point '96 or '97 through to sale, was cut in for a slice of equity by the Dryers if memory serves, think she either had more posts than this or had other admin bio [though i do recall a taste of her elegant whip by PM, may have been preferred style] - Member 2269348

Spring of '98, SI is sold to GNET

GNET is taken over by Infospace

GNET/Infospace run it absolutely into ground, and among other things, fire Bob Z who had started as admin alongside Jill - Member 4591117

Bob Z goes on to build up iHub, to which he is referring in that piece from another site N Dixon posted ... gets it going pretty well, many SIers including myself defect, being more than a little disgusted by management du jour

Bob Z then buys SI for a tiny fraction of the Dryers' sale to GNET, from Infospace or whoever had it, receiver or somebody

Bob Z then sells SI to ADVFN, stays on for some time as admin/manager

Bob Z takes it over again 22jun09

Brad takes it over from Bob Z 01jul11

Brad sells it to current mgmt 19jan13

Can't recall a Dave mentioned as owner, Dale ... admin yes, for some time with Bob and Brad ... have i missed another ownership period by Brad? - something tickling back of mind ... if not, the above gives eight ownership periods in sixteen and a half years, average hair over two years, and we're going on half-way through this current period, looks like it's Dave's turn next, better pray he wins the lottery and lives healthy, conserves his energy

Quite a vivid memory, is the one from Brad announcing the sale to GNET ... i thought damn, we won't all get to buy shares, keep it together and righteous for the long run, but the big bucks blowing around during the inflation of the dotcom bubble were just overwhelming, could hardly blame them ... bought it back for a tiny fraction anyway, so it goes ... and, there it went, for the time being
