I agree. We need to help the poor help themselves, and no strings handouts don't do that.

So this might be yet another example of a situation in which I think government can make better choices than consumers.

The one problem with that is the farm lobby. If you read Ag industry magazines, this is not a joke. Every niche crop and of course all the major ones, are greatly interested in getting on the school lunch menu and any other federal or state food programs. Its welfare to farmers too...
