Hey Mel,
nice to find someone in the middle, like me. :) In answer to your question, I think we have to try a lot of different things, but first we have to stop subsidizing everything. Oil companies still get too many subsidies. So do green energies.

However, the best solution I saw was some MIT report years ago that said a 10 mile squared solar thermal farm in the Mojave desert could provide all of our electricity needs. With that kind of energy at our disposal, we could solve a lot of problems. All we'd have to do is cut back on the military to pay for it. Also, this one you may not like too much, but I think we should convert all of our coal electricity plants to natural gas. The free market is already moving us in that direction and our government shouldn't get in the way. IN addition, Obama should allow us to export as much NG as we like. Those kinds of things will help us move away from coal faster.

Also, I like that hybrid cars and electrics are taking off. The more we get off of gas cars, the better. At the end of the day, I think being a good steward of our environment is a good thing for everyone. China is a cautionary tale for everyone.
