Worst case: average global temperature has risen 1C (1.8F) since the 1800's. Not sure how it was measured pre 1980. I think the placement of measuring devices is very difficult since local human activity causes errors. A device located in a rural area that is now urban makes a big difference. Also, this is an average global temperature. Some places are a lot warmer and others colder.

Human activity cause a change in global temperature. But we are looking at a super-complex system. Geologically, all the coal and oil was once on the surface in the form of plants and animals. So, what were conditions like then? Can humans adapt to that environment? Yes. Natural gas (methane) is a different story. Does it exist in great quantities with out the presences of life (Saturn moon Titan)? If Earth has that and we burn it then I am very concerned. Since that will be some state where the Earth hasn't been.

As long as global climate change is used as a political tool for various causes; And is led by extreme partisans like Al Gore. We are not going to get anywhere:

1 The debate is stalled since grants are issued to those with a history supporting the partisan. Contrarians are burned at the stake.

2 We have turned the planet into a person, Mother Earth, and given her human attributes.

3 We have defined human activity as un-natural.

4 We do not have the science to predict the future (the models differ +40% depending on the time scale). We do not have the computing power to model this super complex system.

5 Anyway, the Earth, nor any part of it, is in a steady state .. change is natural.
