CNRD: What changed in 2006? gurufocus.com Why were they doing so badly and now they are doing so well? What is the secret of their current success? It does not seem they are benefiting from government contracts or from energy buildup (maybe energy a bit in 2012). They are not benefiting from repair contracts - these are down from peak in 2008. So who's building all these new ships and why? I am asking because I wonder if the music stops sometime soon. :)

I look at this company and I don't see a moat and yet they are doing really well for the last 6-7 years. So I wonder why and whether this will change.

(BTW, there is one comment in SA article that mentions that 2002-2005 was crappy because of overbuilding in Gulf. How do we know this won't happen again soon?)

I agree with you that it is somewhat cheap even with the huge runup ( finance.yahoo.com ). They seem to be wisely not buying back shares anymore with the runup. Special divvie was probably good step too. So, yeah, pretty good governance, though I wish I could see what they do when bad times strike. :)

I'll think more about it, though my current feeling is to skip.

CNRD did announce the special dividend of $2 along with earnings, which remain strong.

The stock is up to 38.80. I am selling down to my core position -- backlog is down slightly from the previous quarter, and I am happy to take some nice gains while holding my low-cost core position.
