Finally, some good news from the Far East.....

I just saw on Asia Business News that Taiwan Semiconductor (the region's largest semi manufacturer) and Acer (one of the region's largest PC manufacturers) both just reported record earnings (Taiwan Semiconductor up over 86%.) In my enthusiasm, I neglected to pin down whether the results were quarterly or annual.

Regarding a cyclical downturn in fabs,try reading the Semi Fab article in the latest issue of Fortune. There are quite a few in process just in the US. Its main focus is on the cost and hiring of people for the fabs but does run down the large fabs in process in the US.
