I agree that a Java WAT compiler (Way Ahead of Time) would make a far superior general purpose programming language than, dare I say it, C++. Frankly, I like my pointers, operating overloading and whatnot, but that's probably just conditioning. Moreover, when you really need C++ features there's no reason you can fold them in where and when they are needed. Perhaps WAT-COM would be interested?

Shane agree with your post..Microsoft is still king of the hill and it looks like they will hold that position for many years..It will give Borl an opportunity to work with them on some of the neat Pebble Beach projects...Isolationism will not advance knowledge..

Quiz:

Java is an international standard and that extends to the class libraries. Should Borland stray from that they will be dropped like a hot potatoe faster than you can say Dan Quail. I would venture to say that Del's comments were just a casual response to a seemingly innocuous question with practically serious consequences.

Now for the quiz: When did C++ become an official standard?
