Pyrethrins are quite effective as longer term contact pesticides when applied in situ. Mosquito nets, soldiers uniforms and much more than that like even floor rug materials are all impregnated with pyrethrin.
But chasing mosquitos 'in situ' in the jungle or even in affected population centers may be somewhat impractible.

So it doesn't even come close to DDT in efficiency, however.

That's the very reason why DDT remains allowed for your beloved "Vector Control" whatever that is, which you as an expert Terminator may want to explain to us novices.
