Your disagreement is with The New Yorker - and others that came before it - not my opinion.. You asked me about my own kids experience before and my answer is still the same; their education was awful through the public schools - and my wife worked there. I'm sure your own school is great and I commend you for that - but to dismiss these statistics that come at us year after year doesn't make sense to me. <<<<<because of our Hispanic immigrants, who come to use often very educationally disadvantaged>>>> I did read this and ignored it. Is that what you really want to say? That may have had more truth to it years ago - but since the crash and the anger over immigration, I believe this has much less influence on the 16 - 24 year old group. But even if not, I dismiss this argument completely. There is also a ton of kids from other countries that come here in that age group that are perhaps some of the most advanced in their countries. The Asian influx perhaps unproportionally pulls up our poor showing in the world. .......AND even if the Hispanic population is pulling down our scores - well so what! They are part of America now and by the time they are 16-24 they darn well best be scoring at par.
