Jimsy; I am responding to this post without reading the next 40.
I believe that shorting is anti-investing. It is destructive to companies and individuals alike. It does not promote growth. It presents an alternative agenda for Market makers to work to.

I work for a company that has a written policy. You cannot short company stock - you will be fired - no questions asked. Many companies have a similar policy. If allowed, this would equate to being bonused for poor performance.

I only wish I had more time to put together a formal position on this.
