What I don't like about the private education industry is their focus, on middle
class kids, and so by cherry picking kids who would have been successful
anyway, and without the kids who are troubled, who the system has failed,
this approach does nothing to help them. I suppose that's where the other
private 'solution' comes into play - private prisons.

Education was always supposed to be a way of lifting yourself out by your
own bootstraps. Now in our infinite wisdom and our current national philosophy
that everything must be turned into a way to make a 'profit', (ie loot the system)
even that is being slowly removed.

I agree with you. The market model works wonderfully with a vast range of things, but healthcare and education shouldn't be based on greed and wealth.
