I don't think it's such a remote outlier. Many "Christians" just go to church for the business, connections and socialization. It's like a club. Lip service doesn't mean you believe that nonsense. Neither my parents nor I did, but we all went. I'm a agnostic. In my view, it's the only honest, rational belief system to hold. The universe is so immense, and we are so very, very small in comparison. Do we expect our microbes to worship us? Even to be capable of knowing we're there? Of course not. It's a flawed analogy, since we are much smaller in comparison to the universe than our microbes are in comparison to us.
