Brain,

Here's what I wrote on this thread on INTC:

INTC
To my bearish eyes it looks like it's testing more and more the lower bounds of the trading range.

On the long run wintel is same as car makers and should be treated with same '99 P/E. Only ammo left in MSFT magazine is NT.
After that - nada.
INTC is currently on reserve power. Nobody NEEDS Pentium II or better. Maybe will for NT. They've already invented and marketed automatic transmission and tubeless tyres. Now they'll have to invent and market light alloy wheels and power windows (!). Some want it, some don't. Nobody NEEDS it. Everybody needed DOS and 386,486. Pentiums for win 95, Pentium II for NT are luxury and should be treated as such. NT is the one good product MSFT has. They build the gradual improvement from a real bad OS to a bad one, to a mediocre one, until marketing NT to home users.
The only reason wintel users have to upgrade all the time is that they started from a real bad position (the 640k constrain)
and were fed a gradual improvement.

From what I saw here
exchange2000.com
I conclude anything below .92 bad surprise, over .94 good surprise.
.92-.93 no surprise but stock up anyway on relief.

IMO the co. is saying between the lines they can't make 1.00 Q4.
Analysts will be downgrading.
Look at zachs-
quote.yahoo.com
15 strong buys out of 32. I believe this # will decrease tomorrow.

INTC IMO has no reason to trade over 80.
I have no idea if there's any downside left but 4th Q prediction by the management (on 3rd Q report and repeated in the analysts meeting) suggest to me that the upside (if any) will have to wait till next year.
Chances INTC will trade for $85 again this year are IMO slim.
Therefore I recommend writing call 80.

And here's what I wrote about it yesterday:

I'm watching INTC closely. A big time short opportunity if the stock drops below 76 1/2. Will break many supports, and the 5/21 is still on sell.

I followed my own advice and bot the Jan 85 puts.
