ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 10, 1997--

AViA Chipset To Support 'Internet Over Television' with WorldGate and MoreCom, Increasing
Convergence Opportunities

C-Cube Microsystems Inc. today announced strategic alliances with two of the most innovative
providers of Internet-over-TV services to offer video service providers flexible entertainment
options through settop silicon and complete design solutions. Through these alliances, C-Cube is
integrating Web browsing solutions from WorldGate and MoreCom with its AViA chipset,
offering advanced graphics and Internet support for settop devices. Service providers can now
offer Internet access over television, in addition to digital video services, to increase the
entertainment opportunities for subscribers.

"By linking with the creators of the premier Web browsing applications and high-end functions for
the television and settop market, we offer MSOs the power to increase their subscriber services
through value-add settop applications," said Brian Johnson, vice president, marketing, consumer
network products, C-Cube Microsystems. "We're making the technology simple and cost
effective, so they can focus on enhancing their core services, while increasing their revenue
opportunities."

As cable service providers look to give consumers new settop implementations and applications,
C-Cube technology incorporates brand names in browsing with simple implementation, high
flexibility, compelling graphics ability, quicker time to market, and value-added applications and
customization. In effect, C-Cube serves as a one-stop shop as the settop box market merges with
the World Wide Web, and enables service providers to choose their own road to the future.

Worldgate

As the purveyor of the Internet TV Over Cable (TM) service, WorldGate Communications, Inc.
enables universal low cost Internet access for consumers through cable systems without the need
of a PC, modem, or any additional at home equipment. It is the cable industry's first interactive
Internet service to require only a standard analog or digital cable settop terminal, an existing
television set and a standard remote control. MoreCom

MoreCom offers a complete end to end software solution by merging high quality digital video with
Internet content for television applications using the existing cable network and a digital set-top
box. MoreCom's client software and headend servers are used to build compelling set-top
applications which navigate seamlessly between digital video and Internet content, enabling both
Internet on-demand services and broadcast channels. The new services enhance the advantage of
digital cable networks and are not possible over traditional analog systems, or over phone lines,
thus generate additional revenues to the operators. MoreCom's solution is based on industry
standards, taking advantage of the OpenCable architecture for digital settop boxes.
