But if Obama knew he had a disaster, why did he keep promoting the website as if it were working great? Why did he plow ahead with the October 1st launch, if he knew it would explode on the launchpad?

To me that says that Obama has been shown Potemkin villages all year, and Kathleen Sebelius is Gregory Potemkin.

Perhaps Valerie Jarrett decided that no matter how badly the program launched, once it launched there was no going back.

not directly means to me obama was told to drop into the key meeting to overhear (uninvited) the key failures that were coming. :-) i suspect it went something like that.
