It's obvious Koan, like most people, simply projects his own experience onto the entire world. College is simply wasted on some people.

George W. Bush is a perfect example. He probably shouldn't have even gone, probably wouldn't have if he hadn't been a Bush, certainly wouldn't have made it without their private tutors and influence. He would have partied until he flunked or dropped out. Although his painting seems to be improving, I'm not sure Princeton and Harvard has anything to do with it:

That said, along with Koan, I believe that many that should go don't get the chance, don't have the finances or support. Conversely, many that probably shouldn't go do, because they have the finances and support and are pushed into going. Koan seems to feel everyone should go.

I said formal or informal education. So there is no bigotry here. Please do not call me a bigot. I am no bigot. I am only advocating intellectual development and education.

I would say you are an elitist and a defeatist. You are coming into the teaching trade with pre conceived notions that science says are wrong.

And a 100 IQ is capable of great things. It is not inadequate. I have one relative who went to UC Berkley with about a 100 IQ. She also had no problem and got an A minus average. Oh and then she went on to get a law degree and passed the California bar.

You really have it wrong, the average human can be a great student.

If you go into a ghetto you will find few who are interested in education. And most will be bored by school and drop out. But it is because they do not understand education They have a normal curve of IQ's!

I always use this analogy. Say two people are in prison and there is an interesting book written in Mandarin. One person can read mandarin and one cannot.

The book could be very interesting to the person who can read Mandarin and totally boring for the one who cannot. Why people are often bored by education. Once educated, people usually keep learning.

I figure one standard deviation below the mean (100) and everything above the mean to be normal human intelligence. So one standard deviation below the mean is 34% of the population. As the standard deviation is 14 for the Stanford Benet that would mean 84% of the people are above an 86 IQ and college is easily within their grasp.

My friend Richard Nelson we figured had an average IQ , yet he could write like Hemingway and see like Thoreau.

Like I said. You do not seem to understand how the mind works. We average humans can be smart as hell if we work at it. And we come in all colors and shapes, including many different types of intelligence.

"So are there no Jewish plumbers?"
Not since my cousin Eddie died, back in the 80's. (Pretty young, very fat.) Our old-country aunts said "blumber". Anyway, he was the last.
