Welcome back, Jack! ... Ascend & IP opportunity, applies to Novell too, maybe even better (in terms of technology).

Probably the biggest opportunity for Networking Software there has ever been ... 'routing' functions on Intel boxes is Novell's to take right now ... there's almost no viable competition. This is one of the reasons that I thought an Intel/Novell merger would be a good deal for both companies ... the other substantial opportunity comes from the Wolf Mountain code.

Imagine if these functions were 'embedded' in ROM on Intel Motherboards, or just chipsets available to all Motherboard designers.

I'm guessing that you also saw the buy-out rumors from my favorite company ... Lucent! It seems that Lucent made quite an offer for ASND.
