The USA is the brokest nation in history, owing more money than everyone else combined. Admittedly I'm making that up but rumour has it that a LOT of money is owing and no visible means of repayment, with more promises to be fulfilled such as Baby Boomer retirement payments - good luck with that.

So the USA is not really "rich". China is more like a "rich" country. The USA is more like a very large Greece, but without some Germans up the road gushing euros to bail them out, though China is helping.

Poor countries pulled out of the United Nations climate talks during a fight over transferring wealth from richer countries to fight global warming.
