Well that is not encouraging I would agree. Despite this, Koan, I'm sure thinks/believes that "freeing up" educational resources at the higher level for instruction beyond high school could somehow overcome, eventually, the statistics.

I think the whole dynamic behind the Charter School movement was to somehow change the educational model that was failing so many students. It would be interesting to see to what extent, if any, the Charter's stats trend toward that. At least that would be some indicator if that type of "rescue" effort is being accomplished.

I think, Koan, ought to go analyze the Finnish Educations model (which he cited as an example), statistically that is, and see if in that country at least it is producing the results he anticipates. Then at least he would have a basis for advocating his solution as having worked somewhere (despite the many cultural and historical difference between the US and Finland probably making it not applicable to us).
