Oracle Sees new demand from Asia

REUT 06:34 AM, EST

Singapore, Dec 10: Oracle Systems, a unit of U.S software firmm, hopes demand for risk management and millennium solution will support operations in Asia as it copes with the region's economic crisis, a senior company manager said on Wednesday.
"The currency crisis has made it even more important for companies to look at risk management, a good example is banks", said Loke Soon Choo, regional Managing Director, South Asia.
He said the crisis raised the importance of managing risk among Asian Companies, among other demands to stay competitive, such as solutions to deal with the millenium bug.
Loke was speaking at a news conference to announce Oracle Systems alliance with ECS Computers, owned 80 per cent by diversified steel group Natsteel.
The partnership is to meet demands of small-to-medium sized companies.
"We are no longer a database company, we are an applications company as well", Loke said. There was scope for treasury software that would come into demand from financial institutions that make it through the Asian debacle, he said.
He said Oracle was prepared to be flexible in pricing, to adjust to the changed business climate in countries badly hit by the currency crisis.
