Bob,

TSMC earnings came from their better yields and better service to customers' needs. Any fabless heard the horrible story on how IBM ME treated Cyrix would love to pipe up their orders with TSMC.

The street talks said that Intel placed huge orders with TSMC during Oct after witnessed TSMC excellent yield on Ali's Addadin IV+ chipsets and the rumor that NSM would have TSMC manufacture Cyrix CPUs. Intel placed the huge orders with TSMC with the good intentions to squeeze out TSMC so that TSMC won't have enough capacities to serve Intel's competitors.

There had some serious protests from local fablesses. TSMC placed urge orders to add more equipments for the unexpected Intel orders. As long as this fantasic situation exists, TSMC would have to raise their earning forecast every month. :))

BTW, how many 8" fab would be needed to produce 800 millions set of MediaGXm/chipset in .25u process per year?

Fuchi ... who loves Cyrix's innovations
