My point is that independents constitute much larger percentage of the electorate than social conservatives. It is much more lucrative to go after them than to cater to social conservatives.

That may be true about the %, but it won't help elections. The idea sounds magnificent, but in reality, it doesn't work.

Rush spoke about this at length recently, and explains it much more eloquently than I. (link below)

1. It was the Democratic mantra to republicans for years. "You'll never win, unless you get the independents in your corner" (how sweet of them to care so much)

2. Romney won the independents big time, and lost.

3. Cuccinelli won the independents, and lost the election.

Since the last 2 elections, the Democrats have changed the mantra to "moderates", and are still lecturing. (how caring!)
