No conjecture here but aliens do have an affinity with spiders.

This is ridiculous: " In response to new limitations on pesticide use, some growers turned to employing black widow spiders in their fields to catch and eat insects. The spider’s coloring often renders it undetectable to field inspectors. " Use a deadly spider to consume other insects even though the black widow is "undetectable" to inspectors. Brilliant! And probably a lie.
