(NASDAQ:CUBE), a leading provider of digital video networking solutions, today introduced the MediaView System 5.0, a new system for implementing digital headend operations. Building on DiviCom's mission to supply standards-based solutions, the MediaView System 5.0 supports DVB-compliant interfaces and includes an ATSC-compliant (Advanced Television Standards Committee) encoder, simplified software upgrades and improved network management capabilities. By moving from analog to digital, television service providers face challenges such as increasing network management costs, adhering to FCC guidelines, and providing their customers with high speed access services. The MediaView System 5.0 capabilities allow operators to easily manage their new complex digital television networks. A state-of-the-art System Controller enables automated redundancy in multi-vendor systems and allows rapid software upgrades to take advantage of software added enhancements. Support of open standards such as DVB, MCNS and ATSC let operators meet FCC requirements while expanding their service offerings. "DiviCom continues to add value by improving system functionality through software," said Tom Lookabaugh, President, DiviCom Inc. "The new MediaView System Controller helps our customers with improved network management and new customization tools. We are committed to helping television service providers expand their services and maximize system up time." New Features Offer Greater Flexibility The new MediaView System 5.0 Controller monitors and controls all the elements at the digital headend. Operators can save both time and energy using a system that is standards-based, features an intuitive "drag-and-drop" interface, automatically senses and configures hardware and provides automated redundancy switching. The network manager application runs on a Windows NT workstation and uses SNMP for configuring, controlling and monitoring devices. The new system includes the following network management enhancements: -- Remote system management capabilities to enable operations managers to monitor and manipulate digital head end operations remotely over routed IP networks. -- Simplified software upgrades allow operators to add software functionality to the encoders and system controller "in the background," without taking down an entire system. -- A preferences editor which allows a user to configure and customize the System Controller to his needs in a reliable manner, through a graphical user interface with online help. Additional new features include: -- An ATSC-compliant encoder, which includes Dolby AC-3 audio compression, and ATSC closed captioning. -- A new Multiple Output Module, which offers multiple DVB ASI outputs from a single rack-mounted component. With multiple outputs, one multiplexer can drive several networks, reducing overall hardware costs and maximizing existing hardware capacity. Applications include multicasting, digital turnaround and selective filtering of data. Each output can be independently filtered, which allows the multiplexer to function as an MPEG switch. DiviCom Inc. DiviCom develops and integrates products that make digital video networking possible. Products include audio/video encoding and decoding systems, and integration consulting and implementation services. Based on the MPEG-2, DVB and ATSC international standards, DiviCom's products enable digital video broadcasting over a variety of networks including satellite, wireless, fiber and cable. DiviCom is a member of the ATSC and promotes the ATSC Digital Television Standard. DiviCom is a wholly-owned subsidiary of C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE), and both companies are based in Milpitas, Calif. C-Cube is the leading provider of digital video silicon solutions for the communications, consumer electronics and convergence markets. DiviCom can be reached by phone at +1-408-944-6700, by fax at +1-408-944-6705, or via the World Wide Web at divi.com . Notes to Editors: The Advanced Television Standard Committee (ATSC) digital television standard provides for the following specifications: -- Video compression is based on the international MPEG-2 standard. Video formats include standard (SDTV) and high definition (HDTV), in both progressive and interlace scan. -- Audio compression is based on Dolby AC-3 technology offering 5.1 channels of digital surround sound. -- A packetized data transport system that allows the transmission of virtually any combination of video, audio, and data services. The combination of services can be changed dynamically by the broadcaster offering a myriad of new business possibilities. -- An extensively tested and proven modulation technology, 8-VSB (vestigial sideband), which provides robust and reliable terrestrial transmission. The 8-VSB modulation system assures a broad digital television coverage area, reduces interference with existing analog broadcasts and provides immunity from interference into the digital signal.
