Heavy selling can engulf an individual stock in response to an ominous development. This happened to Oracle yesterday. ORCL's warning that its earnings will be disappointing is very bad indeed, not so much because the earnings are falling short. More because they attribute the earnings shortfall to the Asian situation. If it can happen to one major company it can happen to another.

<<I do believe that Larry Ellison will be interviewed on CNBC at about 2:30 pm>>

It's worth mentioning that this interview had been scheduled before the stock drop -- as part of something called Tech '97, which CNBC is covering.

Ellison will undoubtedly have something to say about the drop, of course, but he's not doing the interview in response to it.
