Yes, but you are never enough careful now a days :-)
Many/most time CC company will make it good.
But you can still have a headache.
In USA it is really bad if your credit score gets ruined because of some identity theft or similar.
I heard stories people couldn't get their ruined score back when it was not their fault...
Why take a chance at all, when virtual card solves all problems. (if it is available to you)

It is not really special. It is your regular CC account, you log in and there create temporally one for one time use for fixed amount and that expires 24 hours later. Simple. Good luck to company that decide to enroll you in some kind of automatic payment afterward or say (like adobe) accounts get stolen. I like buying/paying on line this way it adds extra layer of protection
