Yes, it is so pathetic: Not so much that their every move is so transparently self-serving; But rather that their idea of 'self-serving' is so infantile, crude, and beastly. They are playing the role of a pet to some invisible monster; A monster whom they fear will hurt them terribly while rewarding those more obedient to stupid old regulations of tribal control. Why do they believe their invisible monster is so dangerous and so irrational? Because He is a reification of their own stunted humanity...and His capricious and psychotic irrationality seems perfectly rational to their dwarfish minds. Of course, people who embrace human sacrifice as a curative measure are hardly the sort you would wish to be stuck on a life boat with... AIEEEEEEEEE!!
