The company in a press release yesterday announced that they have the only 9v battery that is guaranteed for 10 years in a smoke detector. They further stated that there are more than 200 million smoke detectors in the US. Up to 40% of these are not working properly primarily due to faulty batteries. That is a huge market, but how about the size of the world wide market. The State of Oregon spokesman said that he has never seen a human fatality when there was a fire in which a working smoke detector was present. The company presently supplies batteries to over 20 manufacturers of smoke detectors. The batteries can also be used as replacement batteries for exsisting detectors. Looks like a tremendous opportunity. There was a news release on PRnewswire.
