Patterned coloration is observed all thru Nature for attraction in mating, protection/camoflage in desert, mountain,forest thicket or coral seafloor, and are developed over eons of time by trial & error. Thats just how myriad life responds over millions of years to myriad of changing environments, from predator to prey, flower to insect , bird, bat, butterfly & bee.
