You mean you feel demeaned to share the world with so many others? I think you should stop taking your worldview from scifi movies. The fact is that despite the massive increase in population over previous centuries, most people alive today live far better lives than their ancestors. Constantinople, it was just simply realizing that city was only 50k population then, 50K was down from what it had been centuries before. Constantinople had been targeted for attack for a long time before it fell. now Istanbul is 14,000,000, there is a trememdous pressure on human decency & dignity. There may or may not be pressure on human decency and dignity, but if so its not simply the sheer numbers that cause that.
