mohan, this article shows cpq's sub 1k pc's closer to where I estimated them....."third quarter (53 percent)".

not the media hype of 70%.
techweb.com

More than half of Compaq's retail PC sales came from systems priced at less than $1,000 in October (52 percent) and for the third quarter (53 percent). Those percentages represent huge increases in share from 17 percent in 2Q 1997, 8 percent in 1Q, and 2 percent in 4Q 1996.

When you read this article you got to be careful. It was said more than 50% of the units shipped for CPQ were sub $1000 pcs, the question now is, " Did CPQ still sell similar
number of units of PCs in the $1000 to $1500, $1500 to $2000 range as before?" If the answer is yes,
then we know CPQ is having an explosive growth this quarter, and may be as high as 50%.
