"Is there enough above ground supply to satisfy demand?"

Not at these today's prices.

Even with the miners mining today there is not enough supply to meet Eastern demand at these prices. Thus the significant flow of gold from West to East to fill the gap. So at some point, Eastern demand has to ease to bring things into balance. (Normally this would happen by the price going up, but maybe also it could happen by the price going down. Just need to convince more people around the world that gold is worthless.)
