I'm with you on that Detroit Bankruptcy point...we dumped over at least a $trillion++ on Baghdad and the Iraq insanity and got what?...oh yeah, we did get that $Bn Fortress (btw, how many mortar shells hit it a week). Now we should have given a task force of our best urban types $50 Bn, peanuts to what we blew on Iraq, to go save (reinvigorate...re plan, etc...) Detroit, one of our great cities, and still the heart and soul of one of America's still great metro regions; tested those ideas on Detroit and used the successes to attack (yeah, use a military term) the problems and issues that so many of our large urban areas also have.
