<Nobody wants to buy AMAT until there is some assurance that there will not be a great deal of push-out in the coming months.>

I disagree...any long term investor would welcome worries about a couple push-outs to accumulate cheap stock... IMO this is whats happening with the "weak hands" including "momentum players" selling. Remember...someone is buying.

<. Once these cylcles begin they typically last 4-5 years, not 4-5 months. I really doubt this is the reason the MM's are not buying AMAT.>

It may be semantics, but MM's wouldnt buy a stock for 4-5 months let along 4-5 years...these guys are strictly "traders". INVESTORS in my opionion definitely think there is a good chance that this "recovery" that you state typically last 4-5 years is being cut short by the "asian flu"...how else can you justify these prices??? 1/2 the analysts on wall street are calling for a downturn in hightech if I'm not mistaken. Many of these believe that the equipment sector will be directly effected by this.

< Problems specific to the SEA debacle may in fact cause another downturn but IMO this is unlikely. >

IMO this is the cruxt of the arguement... its obvious that pleanty of people disagree with you: look at the prices of these stocks! Now, that said, this type of panic (diff. of opinion) is what creates opportunity!
