That would make them the same species. You're looking at this as if they are the same throughout their evolution. They constantly changed. At onepoint they bred with viable offspring - but were the same species then. (under the definition of species). But over 100,000 of thousand of years they changed - separated. They sure weren't the same over those 100,000 of years. We don't know what they were because we haven't enough samples of DNA to even begin to have a clear picture.
