From time to time I will open the bible at random pages and try to make sense of what I find. You're welcome. Todays random bible chapter full of wisdom and authored by Jesus. (and we just missed a really bizarre chapter by a page!) 2 Kings Chapter 3 Two kings attack the Moabites. Why not? Nothing else to do. Hard to find water in the desert. Very thirsty. Please save us Elisha. Elisha? What is he doing with the army? Well, I could care less about you but Jehosophat is something else. So I will save you. But I can only do magic when the music of Jesus pumps through my brain. Enter the musician... Water water everywhere. The hastily dug ditches are full...but no rain! Wise are the ways of the Lord! Now they go on a killing spree. Why not? Nothing else to do. Switch to the king of the Moabs. How to stave off defeat? I know. I will sacrifice my firstborn son to Chemosh! That is about the strongest magic known, and it should carry the day. And so he does! And so it does! IT WORKS! The Israelites now turn tail and run like rabbits! So what is the lesson Jesus is giving us here as he inspires (who? Jeremiah?)? Human sacrifice is stronger than magic music. Chemosh is stronger than Yahweh if the right technique is used. NOTHING IS STRONGER THAN HUMAN SACRIFICE! Jesus will later use this same technique on himself when he sacrifices himself to protect humanity from himself because he promised no more floods. And in any event, floods apparently do not work. The day after a flood somebody is sacrificing the animals who have nothing to eat. The same person is drunk and naked and it just goes downhill all over again. Who could have known? It was a good effort but human sacrifice is way way better than floods. No more drunks.
